Lux Choir

In 2014, my senior year of high school, I founded Lux Choir with six other friends. It all started when our high school choir director showed us Eric Whitacre's Alleluia. I spent a year knowing Whitacre as 'the Alleluia guy,' until a friend and I saw Whitacre conduct a professional choir at the Kennedy Center. When they began singing Whitacre's Sainte-Chapelle, we were floored. As time went on, we only became more enamored of the piece, so we got some friends together to try it out. The next Winter, we gathered again with even more passionate, young singers, and a choir was born. In the Summer of 2016, the group finally settled on a name, Lux, put on our first concert, and released their first album. Today, we've finished seven seasons over a span of four years, and have released two albums, now.

With Lux, I have had some incredibly profound and unique experiences. Because of my work with Lux, I know what it takes to put on a recording session, to put on a concert with a program organized about a singular theme, to advertise a concert, to film and release promotional videos, to create a website, design concert posters, and to get the licenses and preparation work done to release an album, all while on a limited budget. This, of course, is ignoring the lessons I've learned as artistic director, about the preparation necessary to lead an efficient and effective rehearsal, to pick a program that is both challenging and achievable, and to prepare pieces so that I know them well enough to conduct, error-detect, and plan the rehearsal process both long- and short-term. Over the years, we have garnered praise from some of the choral world's most beloved composers, like Eric Whitacre and Paul Mealor, not to mention professors from local conservatories and music schools, professional musicians, and casual audience members all over the east coast.
